Or Am I Just Thinking of "Escalator"?

Whenever I hear the phrase "culture of life," the first image that comes to mind – once the inevitable throbbing red skein of anger has receded – is a Petri dish full of mold. But, now, another, more delightful picture has emerged, though it requires a time machine.

Clearly, "Culture of Life" should have been an '80s new-wave hit.

It's never too late. Depeche Mode, get on it.

One Arch Bishop

If I actually cared in any way who or what the next pope is going to be, my vote would go to Archbishop Piero Marini, just for the zinger he let fly while discussing the upcoming papal election.

When some upper-management Catholic has been chosen – thus making the man magically infallible somehow – white smoke will pour from the Sistine Chapel chimney, as in the past. But this time, to avoid any confusion, there will be bells, too.

"This way," Marini said, "even journalists will know."
