Since little of interest is happening to me lately and there's no time to surf (work work work); and since I now have a scanner with which to provide a helpful visual aid, here's a true Reader's Digestian story from a couple of years ago.
One night back when I lived in the outer reaches of The City, Dana and I needed a late meal, so I introduced her to the Video Cafe on Geary. It's a diner at which you can rent videos, though I don't know how many do. When an older woman came to take our meal order, we made our food choices then moved to beverages. Dana asked, "Do you have lemonade?"
The waitress's permafrown intensified. "No," she said sternly. "Never."
We went with sodas instead, and the waitron's edict provided much laughter throughout the meal. When paying time came, our friendly server brought a cash-register receipt, which read as follows:
Well, we said, at least the spite was only 95 cents.
