Random Act of Findness

Just as inspiration flees, along comes a meme. Via Dewayne, these are the instructions:

  1. Dive into your archive.
  2. Find your 23rd post.
  3. And the fifth sentence therein.
  4. Post that sentence and these instructions.
  5. Recruit five other victims. [I'm flagrantly disobeying this instruction. I don't do chain letters, and I don't do direct email meming. Anyone who wants to pick up the torch for free from here, have at it.]

I hope this meme has an international commission, because I need a ruling. The first line of my 23rd post, stardate 01.19.01 ...

Scenes from an impromptu forget-my-troubles-and-spend-money- while-I-have-it lunchtime trip to the Embarcadero:

... isn't really a sentence. But maybe it's a sentence in spirit. Whether it counts or not determines what the magic fifth sentence is. If yes, my answer is:

"I guess he's a Lakers fan," the cop said amiably to me.

If not, it's the much less interesting ...

"Yeah, that's surprising," I said.

You make the call. Either way you go, the second-or-first sentence is way better:

I wound up chatting with a cop in the men's restroom.

The whole entry, in fact, is better than anything I've posted in months. Ah, my lost blogging youth.
