Circumnavigation

Google Maps is wonderful. We love us some Google Maps. But ... well, it does say BETA.

Maybe it could just use more default settings. For example, after locating one San Francisco address, I tried to plot a course to there from my home, using the "Directions - To here" option. I typed in only my street address, assuming that Google would assume, given no city, that I was going from place to place in the same city.

Google did not assume that. Up pops the message:

Did you mean:
Fifteenth Street, East Hendred, Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, OX11, UK

Yes. That's right. I wanted driving directions from England to San Francisco.

Still, Vale of White Horse does sound charming. Directions ... to here ...

We could not calculate driving directions between Fifteenth Street, East Hendred, Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, OX11, UK and [the San Francisco address].

Tease.

I'll still take those directions over Mapquest's any day of the week.
