Marking Time to Minas Tirith

All time this week is being measured in hours until I get to see Return of the King Saturday morning. Meanwhile ...

Cutting across town is a pair of one-way streets, Fell and Oak, whose stoplights are synched for non-stop traffic flow. In the right lane this morning, a cyclist was riding right behind a motorcyclist, keeping up with him – from the looks of things, drafting him, as Dennis Christopher did the semi in Breaking Away. But how much of a wake do you get from a motorcycle? The sight was intriguing, even beyond the cyclist's attractively thick, green-Lycraed thighs.

At Golden Gate Park, the cyclist split off. As he did, he raised an arm and pointed a finger at the motorcycle rider – the universal "you rock" gesture. The rider reciprocated.

I was smitten, and strangely jealous of their rapport.

Overheard in the men's room of the "Turf Club" at Golden Gate Fields, the racetrack where my company had its holiday event:

"I've never had such a great view while I was urinating."

The restroom has a giant window looking on the Golden Gate, you see. You'd think they might have pointed the racetrack that way instead of the restroom, but no.
